Question
What to say to a dog owner when I contact them for the first time?
Answer
We advise you to:
- Be personalized and polite: the more civil and personalized your message is, the higher your chances of getting a response!
- Ask questions: don't hesitate to ask the questions that seem important to you, such as if it's a puppy, is it potty trained, does it pull on the leash, and if the dog will be taken care of at the owner's home or yours?
- Explain your motivations: explain why you would like to spend time with this dog and your experience or specific availability.
- Be patient: owners are people like you and may not have their eyes glued to their emails all day. Give them two days and don't hesitate to follow up if you don't get a response.
- Check the profile status: non-premium owners will be able to see that you sent them a message but won't be able to read it. However, don't limit yourself to only one type of owner, you could encourage them to become premium by contacting them?
- A complete profile: don't you want to take care of a dog whose face you don't know? Similarly, if you don't post a photo and fill out your profile, they won't want to entrust their dog to you.
- Don't be shy, make the first move: many members are waiting for someone to send them the first message. Stand out and send a message to the dog of your dreams.
We discourage you from:
- Only looking at a few profiles: don't limit yourself only to profiles that match you perfectly, some dog owners are flexible and you may not realize it, and some dogs that don't seem to please you at first can turn out to be great companions!
- Ask for payment: even for a long-term stay, the values of Meet My Doggo remain the same. The owner is obliged to provide you with everything necessary for the well-being of their dog, but they cannot pay you a fee.
- Wait until the last minute: owners are not always available all the time. They will probably want to meet you before entrusting their dog to you, so don't wait until the last minute for the next day.
- Set aside negative responses: both the dog and its owner were not available this time? Ask the owner if you can contact them later for another care session.
